Rule would make lawyers reveal clients' lies in court"A big change proposed to one of Washington's lawyer-ethics rules has criminal defense attorneys worried that they will have an even tougher time earning their clients' trust -- and worse, be forced to rat them out. It means lawyers who find out that their client has lied in court could be required to tell the judge. ... At least 10 states have adopted the rule in question, including Oregon and Idaho, and it's being considered in at least 12, including Washington, according to the American Bar Association. But at least three states -- New Jersey, Maryland and Virginia -- decided not to include the controversial wording that makes criminal-defense lawyers responsible for pointing out their own clients' lies." Israeli official expects renewed fighting"The chances of preventing a new cycle of Israeli-Palestinian violence are small, the head of Israel's National Security Council, Giora Eiland, predicted in a briefing to foreign correspondents in Jerusalem this week. 'Due to the increase of the capabilities and the political ambitions of Hamas, due to the real differences between the Israelis and the Palestinians, the chances that we will be able to solve all these problems and would prevent the new cycle of violence are not very high,' he said."
